CORN SELL SIGNAL & HEDGE ALERT
OLD CROP & NEW CROP
Who is this for?
(Lmk what you want this to all say. Do we want to be more specific and break it down further? Farmer A should do.. farmer B should do… farmer C should do…)
If you have corn you have to get moved by May, we like taking some more chips off the table here in old crop.
For new crop, we want to be more aggressive during that seasonal window of opportunity this spring or summer. But also like getting a small start here at these levels in new crop as well. This is our first official signal for new crop.
Whether that’s an incremental sale or using options/futures for downside protection.
If you want some specific advice or strategies, give us a call or text.

Why the alert?
May corn is currently struggling at the golden fib.
The 61.8% level up to the November highs.
This is a very common spot for a rally to take a breather.
No fancy analysis here.
Dec corn is simply trading around it’s highest levels we’ve seen in over a year.
Never the worst spot to get a start.
Currently sitting at $4.70
Short term, I think May corn could have a hard time crawling much beyond $4.50 unless wheat and or soybeans is able to pull it higher.
Heading into spring and summer is a different story in corn.
But for now.. it feels like this war premium has been largely priced in to the wheat market and outside markets.
For the last few weeks, stocks have been struggling, war stocks have been climbing, oil has been climbing, wheat has been climbing.
Then this weekend we actually see a strike and true war escalation.. yet stocks erased their overnight losses and turned higher. Meanwhile, wheat and oil closed way off their highs.
The prediction markets have been expecting this escalation to happen for several weeks.
In the middle of January, there was an 80% chance the US would strike Iran by the end of March.
Markets price in uncertainty. Once that uncertainty is resolved, it can be priced in.
We already issued a sell signal for KC wheat week and a half ago.
But take a look at this next chart.
This is KC wheat vs crude oil.
They have followed each other almost identically.
War rallies can often be opportunities. The same thing happened last June.
Wheat also hit the golden fibs in both KC and Chicago.
Again, a very common spot for a rally to stall.
So the risk in corn is that wheat isn’t able to carry the weight and pull it higher short term.
