SOYBEAN SELL SIGNAL & HEDGE ALERT

Why the alert?

Soybeans have hit our first target of $11.55

(Scroll for the chart)

Who is this for?

If you did not do anything on our alert on Thursday, we like taking some risk off the table here.

Especially if you have DP, basis contracts, or have to move soybeans by the end of the year.

If you do not, then you have the ability to be more flexible and should be taking less risk off the table than someone who is in one of those situations.

Personally, I think soybeans have a good chance at further upside. So I still like keeping ammo in case this rally continues.

There are 3 different routes you can take:

  1. Buy a put to establish a floor. If we go lower, you lock in a floor. If we go higher, you only lose the cost of your put while having the ability to sell your grain higher.

  2. Sell your grain and then re-own with a call. This gives you a worst case scenario. Which would be the price you sold your grain for minus the cost of the call. If we go lower, you only lose the cost of the call. If we go higher, your call makes money.

  3. If you do not have a hedge account, you can make an incremental sale.

Since I believe this market has more potential, we like using options and prefer one of those strategies. As both of these strategies keep our upside open in the case that the rally continues.

Regardless, it makes sense to reward this rally in some fashion. Again.. we do not want to get carried away and sell all of our soybeans. We do not want to be oversold if beans go to $12 or higher.

Call us if you want to talk specifics, have any questions at all, or would like to work with us one on one.

Reason for the signal:

This is our first sell signal since we tapped those yearly highs. Which was +80 cents ago.

We have now hit our first target of $11.55

This clawed back 61.8% of the contract highs.

Our next target is going to be right around $12.00 for a variety of reasons.

One being that $12.05 is the next fib level up to contract highs.
