Who is this for, and what can you do?
This is a defined risk corn re-ownership/buy signal for those that have priced bushels but want upside exposure. This is not a blind bullish recommendation saying everyone should go out and buy corn.
This is a disciplined shot against major support. If you scroll to look at the charts, if front month corn breaks below $4.50, then the trend may be broken and would negate our buy signal.
If you have made sales higher than where we are, we like to consider re-owning some cash sales via calls. We also like buying back short calls.
We also like picking up courage calls here.
If you decide to use futures, have a plan or a stop to manage your downside risk in the event we continue lower.
If you use corn for feed, this would also be an area to hedge.

Why the signal?
Let’s look at July corn here.
We’re sitting at a make or break spot.
$4.51 gives back 61.8% of the highs all the way down to the contract lows.
That same level is key support from fall.
It’s also where the market bounced in April.
Essentially, this is the last level of support and line in the sand. So you know where you are wrong.
As if we break below $4.50, it does indeed open the lower.
Here is a zoomed out look to give you another perspective on how crucial of a spot this is on the charts.
We pretty much need to bounce right now if we are going to do so at all.
Here is front month corn.
We’ve been in an upward channel since those harvest lows from August.
We are once again sitting at the very bottom of the channel.
So you once again know where you are wrong.
As if we break below $4.50 and below this channel, it could very well be a sign we are setting up for that usual seasonal sell off.
But if we are going to get one last bounce or rally, this would be the area we’d want to see it happen.
Here is Dec corn for example.
“Maybe” we are setting up for a potential head and shoulders top.
We have a potential left shoulder and a head. Just missing the right shoulder.
That potential right shoulder would also line up with us clawing back 50-61.8% of this sell off.
Aka the golden zone and where many relief bounces often fail.
